Don’t you envy the Pope his surety? Likewise all those ‘priests’ who set themselves up as the interpreters of God. Those men – and they are nearly always men – who are utterly convinced they know their place, and the place of women, in the great scheme of things. How very dare they! Rider is not some rampant strident feminist but someone who has seen women beginning to take their place shoulder to shoulder with men to the enrichment of the lives of both sexes. Yes, it’s nowhere near right as yet in so many ways – working life and home life and it will probably take another few generations for men and women to come to a good satisfying balance. It’s difficult for a man to be ‘manly’ and still be able to show those tender and compassionate qualities more native to most women. It’s equally difficult for a women to be able to have children and a home life and still have a powerful career. More difficult still for a couple to have children and be able to both share the caring and earn a living. Returning to women priests – according to the Pope it would merit excommunication to anyone ordaining a woman – well wouldn’t that just make you quake in your shoes. How very dare he! Has he excommunicated all those buggering priests? How dare any man presume to interpret God? How dare any man stand between Rider and Rider’s God…. It’s all about power – male priests having to give up some of their power and cultivated mystery to the other half of the human race. Rider is not just mad but utterly utterly raging. Lift the blinkers from your eyes and dare to face your God yourself without the help of the Pope and the priests of every other male dominated religion.
