Village Veg Show

What could be nicer than lugging home a great big bag of fresh grown veg from your village veg Show? Our Village Hall was full to bursting with tables of flowers, veg large and small, cakes and fruit pies, jams and chutneys plus the Tombola, examples of childrens’ work from school, ladies giving out cups of tea and scrumptious cakes ‘for a donation’ and all this could be accessed for a ‘silver contribution’ at the door. At the end of the Show most of the produce was auctioned off and that’s where the goodies came from. Many faces were not recognised – when children grow up a whole new set of families follow on behind but that’s good to keep the village vibrant. Happily some familiar faces meant a catching up of news. Trawling for recipes rekindles an urge to do a spot of cooking – lucky Writeous Dude and Him Indoors. Support your local Jumble Sales, Cake Bakes etc. and you may be surprised what you get out of it.
